1 Oven Preheat to 400°F (200°C)
1 Baking sheet Lightly greased
2 Bowls One for water, one for coating
- 1 lb Cube Steak Cut into ½-inch cubes
- 2 cups Breadcrumbs Whole grain or panko preferred
- 1 cup Water For moistening steak
- 1-2 tsp Garlic To taste
- 1 tsp Salt To taste
- 1 tsp Pepper To taste
- 1-2 tsp Italian Seasoning Blend of oregano, basil, etc.
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a baking sheet with cooking spray or olive oil.
Cut 1 lb of cube steak into 1/2-inch cubes for even cooking.
In a shallow bowl, mix 2 cups breadcrumbs with 1-2 tsp garlic, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp pepper, and 1-2 tsp Italian seasoning to taste.
Pour 1 cup of water into a small bowl.
Dip each steak cube into the water, then roll in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently for an even coating. Place on the baking sheet.
Bake for 15 minutes or until golden and cooked through (internal temperature 160°F).
Let rest for 2 minutes before serving to retain juiciness.
Serve with mashed potatoes and green beans for a classic meal, or use as a salad topper or taco filling. For variations, add cayenne for spice, Parmesan for umami, or use gluten-free breadcrumbs. Pair with Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, or sparkling water with lemon.
